Mentoring
I believe that being mentored is a wonderful way to grow as a photographer – a really hands-on approach to learning. For me, it’s about helping those who are starting out – giving them the knowledge and skills to grow in confidence as a professional.
From experience, I believe mentoring works best as ongoing support spread over a six month period, with evenly spaced meet ups. It’s enormously satisfying getting together with those I mentor after a short gap of time – seeing the progress they’ve made and how their skills and creativity have developed.
I tend to allocate four hours a month to each of my mentees, which can be used in whatever way suits them best. It might be video meetings (Skype/facetime), phone calls and emails, or face to face.
Because I run a busy studio, I can only allocate two spaces at any one time. If you’re interested in being mentored, we’ll start with an initial meeting – a chance to work out what you want from the experience and get a sense of how we’ll work together over the six month period.
Needless to say, everyone is different and looking for different things from mentoring. You may be seeking practical help learning the craft, or possibly after advice on where to market and how to price yourself in an ever-changing industry. Whatever you’re after, I know I can help.
A six-month mentoring scheme costs £800. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to learn more – or want to sign up.
